About the Artist . Representation. Work Process . Resume . Contact
Painting is Valdemar's primary profession and focus. He is a renowned portraitist and landscape painter, yet the wide variety of his output transcends narrow categorization.
He may at times work digitally. Both as a tool in developing ideas and projects for painting, and as an art in it's own right, where finished work involves concept art of various kinds, mattepaintings, story boards etc.
Valdemar also enjoys writing, exercised mostly in private correspondence with friends.
The artist is devoted to love, creating everlasting works of art, and getting food in his stomach. Not always in that order.
He hails from Märsta, Sweden. The benefit of growing up in three countries - Sweden, Belgium and Germany, had a profound impact on him. Having to adjust and adapt to new environments and cultures at the point in life where one's identity takes shape, inspired him to sharpen his attentiveness and to widen his horizons.
As a member of a large creative family he showed exceptional talent in drawing and painting at a young age. Early on it was understood that Valdemar's was the path of the solitaire artist. A few ventures away from that path have strengthened his sense of purpose. Valdemar is Swedish-American, and enjoys dual citizenship. He works out of Torekov, Sweden.
Representation ^
Valdemar is constantly looking for representation. As an ambitious professional he encourages growth. You are welcome to contact him directly with any offer or prospect.
Work Process ^
"My work process will vary from one project to the next. As there is no one way to relate to a person, there is no one method with which to create a two dimensional image. I experience any new project as a first, in the sense that each new expression is different from the last. We are in a constant state of change. Any subject offers a wide array of approaches, but never will circumstances be the same as with past experiences.
Any expression is a self portrait. The process of creating a work of art is much like looking in the mirror. All the answers are right there in front of you, yet it requires great humility to see them in all their simplicity.
For me a work of art serves as the ultimate testament of who I was when creating it. In no other act is my understanding more clear."
Valdemar's approach is the principle of starting from big to small, seeing large shapes before breaking them down into smaller ones.
He devotes a substantial amount of time and love to each of his works.
Valdemar is schooled in the use of traditional materials and media. The foundation of his way of working derives from the nineteenth century Ateliers in France.
These were institutions whose aims were primarily to produce highly skilled technicians within classical realistic art, where emphasis was placed on line, proportion, and canons of beauty. The classical realist style is characterized by a love for the visible world.
Valdemar accepts the knowledge he acquired at school as a set of tools with which to express- and to comment on his reality.
Drawing
In drawing one makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional surface.
Valdemar predominantly chooses paper to draw on. Which surface, tone, size, weight is preferred for the project at hand. Then there is the choice of medium. Valdemar uses charcoal or graphite pencil almost exclusively.
Painting
Painting is basically drawing, only with a few added dimensions. Variables include different kinds of canvas, varying sized weave, boards and panels. Choices are made in accordance with what is preferred for the project at hand. Valdemar works almost exclusively with oil paint.
Longevity
Emphasis is placed on producing work that will last, both as physical items and as entities communicating life to generations to come. No expense is spared when supplying the many materials involved in the creation of any piece of art.
